  1. 2018 Summer Sizzler Home-brew Comp

    The Summer Sizzler is a home-brew competition hosted by the Down East Alers in Greenville, NC. We are seeking qualified BJCP judges to help us judge 200+ entries on Saturday, June 9. The “Sizzler” is one of 11 competitions in the 22 club member Southeastern Homebrewers Association. The SHA has clubs in VA/NC/SC/GA/TN.

    We are making every effort to house out of town judges & stewards for Fri and/or Sat nights.Contact me [bobsheck@gmail.com or text (252) 367-0704)] to arrange out-of-town judges (and their spouse/significant other) a guest room at one of our members homes. Additionally, Greenville has many Airbnb rooms, many under $40 a night and close to the action! We know too-well the cost of coming to a distant city to judge, many of us having travelled far and wide to judge other comps, so we want to do everything we can to make it uncomplicated.

    Greenville now has 3 craft breweries in Uptown Greenville….all within walking distance of each other…..Trollingwood, Uptown, and Pitt Street breweries. These normally have live music & food trucks on Fri & Sat nights. Within an easy drive are Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery in Farmville and Mother Earth Craft Brewery in Kinston . If you like good food, Greenville & the surrounding areas are known for their Eastern NC-style BBQ. And, there are numerous good eats in Uptown Greenville around the breweries. With a little planning, you could even help us do some pre-judging on Friday evening.

    We will have a raffle with loads of unique goodies….and a gift bag for all out of town judges & stewards. Come join us.
